A drawing, an agreed inspection plan and documented acceptance criteria form the basis of a repeatable component.
Plan before production
Make the acceptance criteria measurable
A dimensional tolerance, an appearance sample and a leak-test requirement answer different questions. Define them separately, with the drawing revision, inspection method, sampling requirements and acceptance limits. This avoids treating a general statement such as “high precision” as a product specification.
For fitted or sealing parts, include the mating component and measurement datums. For coated parts, specify whether dimensions apply before or after treatment. For appearance, agree the visible zones and evaluation conditions.

Material identity
Confirm the alloy designation, applicable standard and required material documentation. Identify any lot or batch information that must accompany the delivered component.

Functional dimensions
Link each critical dimension to its datum and inspection method. Agree how hard-to-access features, bore relationships and profile requirements will be evaluated.

Surface & function
Specify finish, permitted visual conditions and any leak, coating or assembly tests. A component inspection report does not replace validation of the customer’s complete system.

Revision & shipment
Keep the approved drawing, agreed inspection plan and shipment identification aligned. Record changes before repeat production so the new batch is not evaluated against an outdated requirement.

Agree the evidence you need
State required inspection reports, material records, traceability and certificate requirements in the inquiry. Confirm availability, scope and any additional test cost before placing an order. Where a certification is required, request the current document and check its issuing body, scope and expiry against the proposed supply.
